Merck (Pty) Ltd South Africa takes care of sales, distribution and technical support of a broad range of pharmaceutical, consumer health care and chemical products. The company prides itself on having had representatives in South Africa for more than 100 years and have been registered as an entity in their own right for more than 40 years. The local company has inherited its values from the parent in Germany. These values; ‘Courage’, ‘Respect’, ‘Responsibility’, ‘Integrity’, ‘Transparency’ and ‘Achievement’ are the foundation and substance of everything they do.
The Pharmaceuticals business sector comprises innovative prescription drugs as well as over-the-counter products. The Chemicals business sector offers specialty products for the electronics, printing, coatings, cosmetics, food, pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
The operational business is managed under the umbrella of Merck KGaA headquartered in Darmstadt (Germany). Around 30% of the company’s total capital is publicly traded, while the Merck family owns an interest of about 70% via the general partner E. Merck KG.
