The “Bundesverband Medizinischer Auftragsinstitute” (BVMA) was founded in July 1991 in order to represent CROs (Contract Research Organisations) which are based in Germany or German speaking countries. The BVMA is based in Munich. As of April 2009 there are 26 member companies of the Association, operating in the field of clinical research at a national as well as international level.Companies (legal entities) offering services in the context of clinical research (such as planning/conducting/analysing clinical trials; quality assurance; laboratory services; regulatory affairs of medicinal products / medical devices) may become members, provided they have been operating commercially for at least two years and they meet the quality prerequisites which have been defined by the BVMA.In order to make sure that each member maintains the requirements of high quality, system audits are carried out every three years. The general meeting appoints an external organisation to carry out this task. This self-imposed measure guarantees continued high standards of all the member companieThe current President of the BVMA is Dr Dagmar Chase.
